SUNNYSIDE

Sunnyside is a bold new art experience transforming spaces into vibrant wonderlands of colour, creativity, and community - a celebration of curiosity and the joy of stepping into the unknown.

Unlike traditional multi-artist line-ups, Sunnyside is shaped through collaboration with the community, with a single visiting artist invited to bring their distinctive style to life in unexpected ways.

Designed and curated by our founder Belinda Collins, the first edition invited international artist Morag Myerscough (UK), known for her bold use of colour and pattern, to transform Ballarat's iconic Mining Exchange into a multi-sensory experience, Chasing Sunbeams.

Morag travelled to Ballarat months before to learn on Country, meet the local community, and explore the town to inform her work.

The centrepiece that followed, Chasing Sunbeams, was shaped through conversations with local creatives and the wider community, reflecting Ballarat's people, stories, and imagination. The artwork was made from sustainable materials, or repurposed materials where sustainable options weren't available.

Chasing Sunbeams also featured a sound work that enveloped visitors as they explored. Local musician and sound designer Raul Sanchez i Jorge created "sound clouds" featuring the voices of a collective of 60 locals aged 3 to 79. Listen here.

Visitors came along to talks and wanderings alongside the installation, which spilled into laneways and hidden corners, where playful prompts reframed how we move through familiar places.

Sunnyside invited people of all ages to step away from the expected and immerse themselves in a once-in-a-lifetime creative adventure - the latest chapter in Belinda's ongoing work bringing artists and audiences together to spark connection and shape a vibrant new chapter in the cultural life of regional towns.

With a commitment to community and creativity, Sunnyside is the latest chapter in Belinda’s ongoing work crafting unforgettable art experiences that bring artists and audiences together through bold, imaginative projects that spark connection and help shape a vibrant new chapter in the cultural life of regional towns.
